Chartio was a business intelligence and data exploration platform founded in 2010 that democratized data analysis for business users. The company's flagship product provided a cloud-based solution that allowed non-technical users to connect to multiple data sources, create visualizations, and build dashboards without requiring SQL knowledge, though it also supported advanced SQL queries for power users. Chartio distinguished itself through its Visual SQL interface, which translated drag-and-drop actions into SQL queries automatically. The platform supported connections to numerous databases and data warehouses including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, and many others. Chartio served thousands of data-driven companies across various industries, helping teams make better decisions through accessible data visualization and exploration tools. In February 2021, Chartio was acquired by Atlassian for an undisclosed amount. Following the acquisition, Atlassian announced in March 2022 that it would sunset the Chartio product, with the service officially shutting down on March 1, 2022. Atlassian cited a strategic decision to focus on its core products rather than continue operating Chartio as a standalone business intelligence tool. Former Chartio customers were required to migrate to alternative BI platforms.
